About Advantex®

Advantex® glass is a higher-performing, environmentally friendly E-glass. Advantex® glass is a boron-free E-glass that possesses significantly improved resistance to corrosion in a variety of environments compared to standard E-glass. Being boron-free eliminates emissions and it is both an E-CR (corrosion resistant) glass and an E-glass, in accordance with ASTM D578.

The benefits of Advantex® glass reinforcements include a common technology platform that is being implemented across product lines and around the globe. It provides customers with a uniform basis for glass fiber specification offering the same products anywhere in the world.

When introduced in 1997, Advantex® glass was expected to provide superior corrosion resistance in acidic environments. That benefit was confirmed with field use data. Field experience also shows that the product performs better in any aqueous environment, including water and alkaline solutions. Advantex® glass products also have a higher softening-point temperature and a higher tensile modulus than traditional E-glass - which are beneficial in some applications.

Advantex® glass fiber has significant environmental benefits. The product reduces boron mining and minimizes air pollutants at the source - in the manufacturing process - yet it offers the same recycling opportunities available with traditional E-glass.

The company's global network of technical service experts are teaming with customers and using their experience to solve material, process and application development challenges. This creates new value by ensuring that customers receive optimal benefit from Advantex® glass fiber.

At the time of the Vetrotex acquisition in 2007, Owens Corning had converted more than 80 percent of its reinforcement plants to the formula. The company is now moving aggressively to install the capacity at the newly acquired facilities.
